In a former quarry in the Guédelon Forest, some forty workers are taking on an extraordinary challenge.
They are building a 13th-century fortified castle before visitors' eyes using only the techniques and materials of the time.
Spanning over 7 wooded hectares, the site is organized around three areas:
Your visit to Guédelon begins with a discovery of ancestral trades: quarrymen, stonemasons, masons, blacksmiths, lumberjacks, carpenters, and more.
Want to learn more? The three chroniclers present on the site will be happy to share anecdotes, demonstrations, and explanations about life in the Middle Ages.
Before exploring the various rooms already completed: the kitchen, the pantry, the guest room, the auditorium, and, of course, the work in progress.
Young and old alike can participate in fun workshops.
You can learn stonemasonry on a block of soft limestone or step into the shoes of an archaeologist, conducting a scientific excavation on a reconstructed site.
Allow at least four hours to fully enjoy this medieval adventure, including discovering the trades, strolling through the forest, and exploring the village. And don't forget to take the forest path to visit the miller!
